What started as an annual (yet ingenious) plan to leave Singaporean borders turned out to be the best thing that has ever happened to me. From Ben’s badgering/incessant pleas to make us purchase his books; to the classic irritated reaction on shopkeepers’ each time we bargain, the 11 day stay in Siem Reap, Cambodia was never near lackluster.
I truly enjoyed the whole shebang of the trip- teaching, construction, mealtimes (Naan especially), recreational visits, etcetera. But most of all, I believe the experience of witnessing the rudimentary life with the friends I made during the trip was an experience that is second to none.
This picture pretty much portrays the sum and substance of my sojourn to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The friendships I forged in Mission OPIC, Kravan and the orphanage will definitely be something that I will cherish for life. I feel blessed to be in the company of such wonderful characters during the stay (You people must be the most extroverted and sanguine bunch I’ve ever met!).
I’ve learnt so much from the trip. For example, the value behind a drop of water has never been stated so clear to me; specifically, the value behind a drop of CHLORINATED water. Here, we’re fortunate enough to be able to have a swig right off a tap; a far cry in Cambodia where the scarcity of potable water is strife.
In sum, I’m just happy to say that I’m walking away with experiences, morals and friendships that have made me a better person. I can’t wait to return and meet the children in Kravan again!
PS: Heartfelt thanks go out to everyone who took care of me during my sick saga. Thanks Mr. Lim, for your care and the chicken soup. Thank you Ms. Lim for being so motherly. Lastly, thank you Yus for being such an awesome roomie and being there for me when I needed someone the most. Awkun!! :)Labels: Wahida
